Carl Junction splits

From The Joplin Globe

Carl Junction spoiled the baseball opener for Joplin High School with a 4-2 victory on Friday night at neutral Carl Lewton Stadium.

In other games, Carthage beat Webb City 6-4 — after losing 17-6 to Nixa — and Webb City clipped Carl Junction 8-4.

The games were makeups after inclement weather forced cancellation of a tournament at the first of the week.

Carl Junction’s Nathan Eddy, a junior right-hander, tossed six innings in beating Joplin. Jake Stevenson preserved the victory for the Bulldogs (2-1).

Zak Porath’s two-run single keyed a decisive four-run third inning for Carl Junction.

Webb City, in beating Carl Junction, garnered 11 hits with Chance Sossamon getting two doubles among three and Jerry Workman adding a pair. Patrick Drake and Mack Kyle also had doubles for the Cardinals.

Brett Richardson notched the pitching decision for Webb City. Sossamon nailed it down.

Webb City pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fourth to snap a 3-3 deadlock.

Carthage, in hurdling Webb City, received a two-run triple from Anthony Eck and a two-run double from Gage Tiller.

Kyle Wicklund, a senior right-hander, worked four innings for the victory and junior right-hander Clint Spencer finished for the save.

The Tigers committed seven errors in losing to Nixa.
