Bulldogs
win opener
Carl
Junction moved to 1-0 with a season-opening 5-2 win over
Republic Thursday.
Junior
Jake Hale pitched into the seventh inning, allowing only 1 hit.
Senior Nate
Thomas relieved with one out, earning the save for the
Bulldogs.
The
game was the only contest the Bulldogs could get in this week at
the Republic Tournament after rain washed away all tournament
action on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Carl
Junction scored a pair of runs in the top half of the first
before the hosts Tigers scored a single tally in the bottom half
of the frame. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 in
the fifth and added two more runs in their final at-bat.
The
Tigers cut the lead to 5-2 before Thomas closed the deal.
Senior
John
Michel rapped two doubles for the Bulldogs. Freshman
second-baseman Jack Luton added two hits in his varsity debut,
including a triple and single. The pair combined for 4 of
the Bulldogs' 5 hits on the afternoon.
Carl
Junction's defense was nearly flawless, committing only 1 error. |
